How was Band of Joy? I saw Plant and the incredible Buddy Miller on TV the other night playing a recent show from Nashville and it was freakin' great. He definitely continues to grow and explore.

Setlist as I recall ( from my cheat sheet):
Black Dog
Down to the Sea
Angel dance
Black Country woman
House of cards
Somewhere Trouble Don't go
Twelve Gates to the city/ In my TIme of Dying
Satisfied Mind ( led by Darrel Scott)
Misty Mountain Hop
Ocean of Tears
In The Mood
Please Read the Letter
Houses of the Holy
Ramble On
Your Long Journey

He was apparently aware of where he was and was gracious and polite (the only way to survive Merlefest). His band is very strong. Darrel Scott, playing just about everything and no stranger to Merlefest, gave them serious blue grass cred with an outstanding version of "Satisfied Mind" that got the first standing ovation of the show. Patty Griffin was singing in fine form the whole time. The band is tight and fluid at the same time. The Led Zepp songs were not tired covers, but changed songs with this band. I had not heard newer Mr. Plant before and now have more respect for how he handles that material. Still, a throw back to my childhood head-banging Houses of the Holy would have been great fun! I thought the whole performance was great, even if I'm not the sort of fan who is going go out and buy his newer CD's now. I am very glad to have been there. I did buy a lot of CD's there, but mostly Kruger Brothers and Emmet-Nershi stuff, as well as some freight hoppers and Blind Boy CHocolate and the Milk Sheiks. Great fun!

Tony Rice with Peter Rowan and separately the Tony Rice Unit were just outstanding. Listening to the Kruger Brothers live brings tears to my eyes every time it is just so beautiful. If not that, those guys brought me to tears with laughter each time as well because they are so funny.
Try driving through the country and listen to their album "The Suite" sometime.

Duly noted for the drive. Thanks for the feedback. As a NC native, I miss the opportunity to make that drive and fest.
